Making Electrolysis More Comfortable
So let's be honest here, not everyone finds electrolysis comfortable, with some clients needing a little extra help to manage
comfort levels during their treatments.
Clients have electrolysis for many reasons due to hormonal imbalances such as Polycystic Ovary Syndrome, LGBTQ+, Pre GRS. Regardless of the reason it is important to make sure your treatment is as comfortable as possible.
Below are some tips to help you with different options.
Please remember that the electrolysist is unable to prescribe or administer
and can only advise on the types of products that can be used to help you
during a course of electrolysis, unless they are apropriately trained to do so.
Please consult your GP before taking any medication if
necessary.
1)
Anti-histamines
These help to manage the skin reaction you
may have after your treatment.
Take them on the morning of your treatment
and for a few days afterwards.
2)
Pain killers
No blood thinning painkillers such as aspirin
as this can slow down the healing process and increase the risk of bleeding.
You could use painkillers with anti-inflammatory benefits to help with the skin reaction you may have. These
need to be taken before your treatment as per the instructions provided in the
medication box.
3)
Numbing treatments.

Please note that Abigail does not know these
products specifically and can not recommend any specific ones.
Everyone is different and the effects of
these products may vary depending on the person trying them. It is a
case of trying and seeing what works best for you as an individual.
Emla can be hit and miss re efficacy but that is often due to clients not using it correctly. Those clients that use it though would not go without it as it does tend to take the edge off.
When purchasing any products to help during
your electrolysis treatments make sure you buy from a reputable company and the
product is genuine.
If you know of any products that you have
used successfully let Abigail know and it can add to the list.
Other Things You Can Do To Help Your Treatment Go Well
Hydrate your skin with a moisturiser –
hydration is important so we can use and insert the right probe size. This reduces the
length of time the current is on and the intensity level.
Exfoliation - Best done the day before your
treatment. Exfoliation helps to lift off excess dead skin cells and debris and
helps to minimise ingrowing hairs.
If you want further advice on skin care, take a look at the "Looking After Your Skin" article.
Aftercare treatment – remember to use aftercare after your treatment to aid healing – All reputable electrolysists will advise you on this and you will be able to purchase after care from them. If the skin hasn’t healewell your treatment will need to be delayed. This slows down your progress and
delays the end result…. Being free of unwanted hair.
